Karbomer/ Carbomer adalah homopolimer asam akrilat dengan berat molekul tinggi, yang berikatan silang dengan salah satu dari beberapa alil eter polialkohol. Polimer karbomer diproduksi dengan proses pengikatan silang. Bergantung pada tingkat ikatan silang dan kondisi pembuatan, berbagai jenis Karbomer tersedia.

Carbomer/ Karbomber adalah bubuk putih halus yang mudah menyerap air untuk membentuk gel atau larutan kental yang tidak beracun, stabil, dan tahan pembusukan. Mengandung tidak kurang dari 56,0 persen dan tidak lebih dari 68,0 persen gugus asam karboksilat (–COOH). Nilai PH dispersi air 1,0% adalah antara 2,5 dan 3,0. Ketika dinetralkan dengan zat basa, akan berubah menjadi gel dengan nilai PH antara 5.0~10.0. Viskositas dispersi berair 0,5 persen Carbomer 934 GE yang dinetralkan antara 30,0 ~ 40,0 Pa.S. Dan viskositas Carbomer 940 GE antara 40.0~60.0Pa.s.

Carbomer 940 adalah nama generik untuk kelas polimer ikatan silang dengan berat molekul tinggi dari asam akrilat. Carbomer/ Karbomer 940 memiliki kemampuan menyerap dan menahan air saat dinetralkan oleh aklali untuk membentuk gel bening. Ini memainkan peran penting dalam banyak produk komersial seperti gel, krim dan lotion, memberikan stabilisasi viskositas dan sifat suspensi.

Bnecel adalah bubuk pengental berwarna putih memiliki karakteristik yang hampir sama dengan carbomer. Bnecel termasuk jenis ether cellulose yang dirancang khusus untuk larut dalam formula alcohol based dan juga water soluble.  Biasa digunakan sebagai pengental pada industry makanan seperti mayonnaise, saos tomat, dan juga banyak dipergunakan dalam bidang kosmetik seperti shampoo, body wash, shower gels, dan shaving cream, dll.  

Untuk membuat hand gel sanitizer dengan penggunaan yang persis sama seperti carbomer tinggal di sesuaikan dosis sesuai kebutuhan.  Bisa dicoba mulai dari dosis 0.5.

Carbomer as Gel Thickener

Carbomer is a homopolymer of acrylic acid with a high molecular weight, which is cross-linked with any of several polyalcohol allyl ethers. Carbomer polymers are manufactured by cross-linking process. Depending upon the degree of cross-linking and manufacturing conditions, various types of Carbomer are available. 

They are fluffy white powders that readily absorb water to form gels or thick solutions that are non-toxic, stable, and resist spoilage. It contains not less than 56.0percent and not more than 68.0percent of carboxylic acid (–COOH)groups. The PH value of 1.0% water dispersion is between 2.5 and 3.0. When it is neutralized with alkaline substance, it will change into gel with PH value between 5.0~10.0. The viscosity of a neutralized 0.5percent aqueous dispersion of Carbomer 934GE between 30.0~40.0 Pa.S. And the viscosity of Carbomer940GE is between 40.0~60.0Pa.s.  

Properties

• T. Carbomer AD-0 products are excellent emulsion stabilizers, viscosity adjusters and 

   viscosity builders.

• n-Hexane is used as solvent in the polymerization step.

• T.Carbomer AD-0 products are soluble in both water and alcohol. 

• T. Carbomer products can be used over a wide pH range application.

Application

• T® Carbomer AD-0 products are suitable for the preparation and stabilization of creams, 

   lotions and suspensions.

• T® Carbomer AD-0 is especially suitable for the preparation of clear water or alcohol 

   based gels.

• T® Carbomer AD-0 is recommended for the manufacturing of high viscous emulsions.

• T® Carbomer AD-0 is especially suitable for O/W creams.

Preparation

Add T® Carbomer slowly into the Vortex of the agitating liquid. Avoid agglomeration. Use dissolver or propeller stirrer or rotor-stator-homogenizer. Intensive shear may lead to a viscosity reduction of the final product and should be avoided. Neutralise with triethanolamine,

tetrahydroxypropylethylendiamine, sodium hydroxide or inorganic bases.

T® Carbomer products can also be dispersed directly into mineral oil or ester oils just before manufacturing.
